How to Navigate Life During a Season of Rebirth

We often find ourselves in seasons of life that feel like a complete upheaval, where everything we once knew no longer makes sense, and the person we’ve become no longer feels familiar. These are seasons of rebirth—moments where we are called to shed our old selves and embrace the new. But navigating this process is rarely easy, and it requires a deep willingness to explore who we truly are.

As women, especially as wives and moms, we can sometimes lose ourselves in the roles we hold dear. We pour so much of our energy into our families and the needs of others, that we often find ourselves asking, “Who am I now? What is my purpose?” These moments of questioning signal that we are ready for a transformation—a rebirth. Today, let’s explore how to navigate life during a season of rebirth and embrace the journey of rediscovering ourselves.

A Personal Story: My Own Journey of Rebirth

My personal journey of self-discovery began in 2011 when I woke up one morning feeling a deep sense of emptiness as if something vital was missing from my life. At the time, I couldn’t put words to what I was feeling, but I knew that something inside me was shifting. This marked the beginning of my spiritual awakening, though I didn’t fully understand it back then.

Fast forward to last year wen my family and I moved to Okinawa, Japan. I felt a familiar tug—one that signaled change was coming, not just in my physical surroundings but deep within me. It took months after the move for me to recognize that I was entering a new phase of transformation. This time, it was about stepping into my womanhood, my wholeness, and rediscovering who I was beyond my cherished roles of wife and mom.

It wasn’t an easy journey. I experienced moments of guilt and fear—fearing that by focusing on myself, I was somehow neglecting my family. But I knew deep down that this was the path I had to walk. It was time to embrace this rebirth and to become the woman I was meant to be.

Navigating Your Own Season of Rebirth

So, how do we navigate these seasons of rebirth? How do we step into our wholeness when we’ve been so consumed by our cherished roles? Here are three key insights to guide you through this journey:

  • Embrace the Unknown: Rebirth isn’t about having all the answers upfront. It’s about standing in the darkness, enduring the discomfort, and trusting that the light will eventually come. You don’t need to have everything figured out. The journey itself will reveal the answers in time. There will be moments when you feel lost or uncertain, but these are the very signs that you are on the brink of transformation. When you’re feeling unsure, take time to reflect. Write down how you’re feeling, what you’re struggling with, and what you hope to gain from the rebirth. This practice will help you get clear on your intentions and embrace the uncertainty with more grace.

  • Allow Yourself to Feel Everything: The process of rebirth is often messy and emotional. There will be days when you feel empowered and days when you want to give up. But every emotion you experience is valid. Allow yourself to feel everything—the joy, the fear, the frustration, and the excitement. These emotions are part of the transformation process. Take time each day to check in with yourself. Ask how you’re feeling, and name those emotions without judgment. By doing this, you’ll build emotional resilience and learn to navigate the highs and lows of your journey.

  • Stay Rooted in Your Purpose: As you navigate this season of rebirth, it’s essential to stay grounded in your purpose. For me, my purpose was to rediscover who I was beyond my cherished roles. For you, it might be about reclaiming your power, creating space for your passions, or stepping into a new chapter of life. Whatever your purpose is, hold onto it tightly, especially during moments of doubt. Whenever a doubt arises, revisit your “why.” Write it down somewhere visible, whether it’s on a sticky note or in your journal. Keeping your purpose front and center will anchor you as you continue this transformative journey.

Words of Inspiration

As we walk through seasons of rebirth, it’s important to remember that this is a continuous process. Rebirth isn’t a one-time event—it’s an ongoing journey of shedding old layers and stepping into new ones. There will be moments of clarity and moments of confusion, but each step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to the woman you are meant to be.

I want to leave you with these words by Questlove, which have been a guiding light for me during my own moments of doubt:

How do you plan a rebirth? I’m not sure you do. You just stand in the darkness until you can’t endure it any longer, and then you move forward until you’re standing in the light.
— Questlove

These words capture the essence of what it means to navigate a season of rebirth. It’s not about planning each step meticulously. It’s about allowing yourself to stand in the darkness, trusting that the light will come, and moving forward with courage and faith.
